Selank is a stabilized analog of tuftsin, a naturally occurring tetrapeptide, extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. It was developed in Russia and examined mainly as an intranasal preparation in anxiety-spectrum conditions. Subcutaneous use is also commonly reported outside the formal literature.

Commonly reported dosing by vial size

Frequency: 3x daily, intranasal · Half-life: Short in plasma (minutes); route dependent

Vial size (2 sizes)

5 mg vial + 5 mL → 1 mg per mL

Diluent: 0.9% sodium chloride (saline) (as commonly reported)

The volumes here describe a nasal spray preparation. The reference chart's worked example uses sterile 0.9% saline; some community guides use bacteriostatic water instead, which is formulated for injection rather than nasal use.

The 5 mg vial is commonly reconstituted with 5 mL.

Commonly reported reconstitution steps

  1. Vials are usually brought to room temperature (about 15-20 minutes) first.
  2. 5 mL of 0.9% sodium chloride (saline) is added slowly down the inside wall of the 5 mg vial.
  3. The vial is swirled gently until clear, not shaken.
  4. This gives 1 mg/mL. Mixed vials are typically labeled with the date and refrigerated.

Storage

Before mixing: Lyophilized vials are commonly stored frozen or refrigerated and protected from light.

After mixing: Reconstituted solution is commonly kept refrigerated and not frozen; registered nasal products are labeled for storage at no more than 10 °C.

Commonly used within 28 days of mixing.

How it works

Preclinical work suggests Selank modulates GABAergic signaling, monoamine metabolism, and BDNF expression, and it has reported effects on immune-related cytokines. The exact receptor-level mechanism is not settled.

Researched for

  • Studied in small human trials against anxiety and asthenic disorders, including comparison with phenazepam.
  • Examined in animal models for anxiolytic and antidepressant-like behavior.
  • Investigated for immune-modulating effects alongside its behavioral actions.

Notes

  • Published human work mainly used an intranasal 0.15% drop formulation, with daily amounts around 2,700 mcg in some trials; the 300 mcg three-times-daily figure comes from the reference chart.
  • Registered as a medicine in Russia; not FDA-approved.
  • Most evidence is from Russian-language trials and animal work.
